Experimental and Numerical Study of Jet Mixing from a Shock-Containing Nozzle

چکیده
The compressible jet plume emerging from a planar convergent–divergent nozzle containing a separation shock is investigated experimentally and numerically. The investigation encompasses exit-to-throat area ratios (Ae=At) from 1.0 to 1.8 and nozzle pressure ratios from 1.2 to 1.8. Experiments were conducted in a variable-geometry nozzle facility, and computations solved the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations with several turbulence models. The computed mean velocity field outside the nozzle compares reasonably well with the experimental data. Among the different turbulence models tested, the two-equation shear stress transport model is found to provide the best agreement with the experiments. Jet mixing is governed by Ae=At and, to a lesser extent, by nozzle pressure ratios. Increasing Ae=At results in an increased growth rate and faster axial decay of the peak velocity. The experimental trends of jet mixing versusAe=At and nozzle pressure ratios are capturedwell by the computations. Computations of turbulent kinetic energy show that, with increasing Ae=At , the peak turbulent kinetic energy in the plume rises and moves toward the nozzle exit. The significant increase of turbulent kinetic energy inside the nozzle is associated with asymmetric flow separation.

Numerical study on mixture formation characteristics in a direct-injection hydrogen engine
Numerical modeling of direct hydrogen injection and in-cylinder mixture formation is performed in this paper. Numerical studies on direct-injection hydrogen engines are very limited due mainly to the complexity in modeling the physical phenomena associated with the high-velocity gas jet. The high injection pressure will result in a choked flow and develop an underexpanded jet at the nozzle exit...
متن کاملMean Velocity and Static Pressure in a Sharp-edge Circular Nozzle Jet
An axisymmetric jet issued from a sharp edged circular convergent nozzle has been studied experimentally in the near field at Reynolds number 5.3x104 to search the saddle shape behavior of mean velocity and the role of mean static pressure in the jet flow. Due to the vena contracta effect the centerline mean velocity of the jet increases about 4.2% of its exit value and corresponding decrease ...

The study of interactions of jet into cross flow at different longitudinal and transverse angles of jet was studied. The following components were designed and constructed: a low velocity wind tunnel to produce the uniform flow, a flat plate with a traverse injection system to simulate the jet injection, and a spatial rake to measure the total pressure. The tests were carried out at longitudina...

A numerical study has been carried out for slot air jet impingement cooling of horizontal concentric circular cylinders. The slot air jet is situated at the symmetry line of a horizontal cylinder along the gravity vector and impinges on the bottom of the outer cylinder which is designated as θ=0°. The outer cylinder is partially opened at the top with a width of W=30mm and is kept at constant t...
